Import a Rippling worker report into Org Chart Studio. File import only; Studio does not sync with Rippling.
1. Ask for a worker report
Ask a Rippling administrator to create or export a worker report as CSV or Excel through the reporting route your organization actually exposes. Available formats, report names, and fields depend on the administrator's permissions and your Rippling setup.
Request these chart fields:
- each worker's complete display name
- job title and department
- a manager reference
- a stable worker reference when one is available
Rippling's worker data model includes a worker ID, formatted name, title, department, and manager ID. That relationship exists in Rippling's data model; your report may still use different labels or omit fields. See Rippling's official worker reference.
Avoid exporting compensation, tax, bank, benefits, or other fields the chart does not need.
2. Prepare a working copy
Keep 1 row per worker. Studio needs a complete Name value. If the report separates first and last names, combine them in a new column.
For reliable reporting lines, use 1 of these patterns:
- IDs: keep the worker's stable ID and the manager's matching worker ID.
- Names: keep a manager name that exactly matches the complete name on that manager's own row.
Use the ID pattern only when your exported report contains both halves of the match. Do not pair a worker ID with a manager value from another system.
| Full Name | Job Title | Department | Worker ID | Manager Worker ID |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alex Rivera | Executive Director | Leadership | R-100 | |
| Casey Lee | Operations Director | Operations | R-110 | R-100 |
| Jordan Patel | Program Manager | Programs | R-120 | R-110 |
| Morgan Chen | Finance Director | Finance | R-130 | R-100 |
Download this prepared example. It is a fictional Studio-ready file, not an export from a Rippling tenant.
3. Map the report in Studio
Open Studio and choose Choose spreadsheet. Select the working copy, then check Map spreadsheet columns:
- map Full Name to Name
- map Worker ID to Employee ID
- map Manager Worker ID to Manager ID
- map Job Title and Department to their matching fields
Your report may use different headings. Choose the source column by what it contains. The sample value beneath a mapping is a preview, not a person-data editor.
Choose Confirm & import, then open People. Compare the person count and reporting lines with the working copy. Use Needs manager to resolve a manager whose row was omitted or whose reference did not match. The CSV and Excel import guide covers mapping and review in detail.
4. Update the chart later
Export a fresh report and prepare it with the same columns. Keep stable worker IDs unchanged. In the existing chart, choose People → Update from spreadsheet, review the additions, removals, and edits, then apply only the changes you expect.
Updating the chart does not write back to Rippling.
Questions about Rippling imports
Does Studio connect directly to Rippling?
No. Ask for a CSV or Excel report, prepare a working copy, and import that file.
What if my report has manager names but no manager IDs?
Map the manager-name column to Manager Name. Make each value match the complete name on the manager's own row, and review duplicate names before importing.
