Move an Org Chart Studio chart into Google Slides as PNG when it should stay one image, or as PowerPoint when people need to edit slide objects after the handoff.
Neither file stays connected to the chart in Studio. When the organization changes, update the Studio chart and replace the slide or import a newer deck.
Studio requires guests to sign in before Export opens. Signing in does not buy an export pass. The selected branch and depth determine the people count used for export eligibility. If you buy a pass, Studio can set a higher minimum to cover a larger saved chart on the same account.
Use Google Drive and Google Slides in a browser for these steps. You need a Google account with access to both products.
Choose the right handoff

Studio does not offer a Google Slides file in its regular Export dialog. PNG and PowerPoint are the current file routes.
Put a PNG on a slide
- Finish the people, reporting lines, theme, and layout in Studio.
- Open Export and choose PNG image.
- Check the selected scope, people count, scale, page settings, and preview. Generate the export, then download and extract the ZIP.
- In Google Slides, open the destination slide and choose Insert → Image → Upload from computer.
- Select the page image, then resize it from a corner so its proportions stay intact.
Google documents the computer-upload route in its image instructions.
A PNG behaves as one object. You can move, crop, resize, or replace it in Slides. You cannot select a person's name or reroute one connector as a separate slide object.

Open an editable PowerPoint export
- In Studio, open Export and choose PowerPoint deck.
- Check the selected scope, people count, and pagination, then generate and download the PPTX. PowerPoint export requires an active pass that covers that scope. If you need to buy a pass, the minimum offered size can be higher when your account has a larger saved chart.
- Upload the PPTX to Google Drive.
- In Drive, double-click the PPTX to open its preview, then choose Open with Google Slides.
- Inspect names, font substitutions, card sizes, connector positions, page order, and anything close to a slide edge before sharing.
Google distinguishes two handoffs: opening an Office file in Slides edits and auto-saves the original PPTX, while converting it to Google Slides creates a separate copy. Use Google's current conversion workflow when you need a native Google Slides file and want to preserve the original PPTX; the exact menu wording can vary by account. Studio's PPTX contains editable shapes, text, and lines. It is not PowerPoint SmartArt, and it does not become a linked Google Sheets chart. A card can contain grouped drawing objects, so select carefully before moving only part of one.
Conversion between presentation formats can change fonts, line routing, grouping, or spacing. Check the actual deck in the Google account and browser that will present it. Keep the downloaded PPTX until the converted result has passed that check.
Update a chart already in Slides
Make roster and reporting changes in Studio first. Then export again:
- For PNG, delete or replace the old image with the new page image.
- For PowerPoint, upload the new PPTX and bring the corrected slide into the working presentation. Google Slides provides File → Import slides for copying selected slides from another presentation. See Google's import-slides instructions.
Edits made only in Slides do not update the saved Studio chart. A later export can overwrite that manual slide work if you replace the objects, so keep presentation-only notes and annotations outside the chart group.
Questions about Google Slides
Can I edit names after inserting a PNG?
No. The PNG is one image. Update the person in Studio and export again, or use the PowerPoint route when object-level editing matters.
Does opening a PPTX make the chart SmartArt?
No. Studio exports presentation shapes and lines. Google Slides opens or converts those objects; it does not turn them into PowerPoint SmartArt.
Will my Google Slides chart stay synchronized with Studio?
No. File exports are snapshots. Update the saved chart in Studio, export a new file, and replace or import the affected slide.
