Studio keeps your work as you edit. What “saved” means depends on whether you are working in a local draft or a chart attached to your account.
Local draft versus saved chart
Before a chart is attached to your account, Studio stores a draft in that browser. You can rename the draft, close the tab, and return to it on the same browser and device while that browser storage remains available.
The document bar says Local draft while the chart remains a browser draft. Saving and Saved describe a chart attached to an account.
A local draft is not an account backup. Clearing site data, using private browsing, or moving to another browser or device can make it unavailable. Sign in and save the chart to your account when you need to return from elsewhere.
The Local label marks the browser draft. 0 charts is the saved-chart count for that account; the draft is not saved yet.
After sign-in, Studio can offer to save a local draft to your account. If the account has reached its chart limit, delete an unneeded saved chart first. The interface shows your current chart count and limit.
Sign in and save a local draft
Choose Sign in to save & export from the chart switcher or compact Studio menu. The Welcome back screen starts with password sign-in. Choose Continue with Google, or enter your Email and Password and choose Sign in. For a passwordless option, choose Email me a sign-in link; the form then asks for the email address that should receive the link. Choose Create account if you are new to Studio.

After sign-in succeeds, return to Studio. Incomplete sign-in leaves the draft local to that browser.
If Studio shows the local draft as an Unsaved chart, choose Save. Check the account and chart name, then wait for Saved before closing the tab or switching charts. If the draft still shows Local or Not saved, keep it open and try the save again.
Check whether a saved chart is current
For a chart attached to your account, people, reporting lines, and chart settings save automatically after changes. The workspace shows Saving while a write is in progress and Saved when it completes.
If saving fails, Studio shows the error with Retry save. Keep the chart open, retry, and wait for Saved before switching charts or closing the tab. A save error is a status to resolve, not proof that the last change reached your account.
The app also keeps a browser draft during editing. That recovery copy helps with interrupted work, but it does not replace a successful account save. If Retry save continues to fail, keep the tab open and report the problem with the visible status and approximate time.
Rename the current chart
- Find the chart name at the top of the workspace.
- Choose the adjacent pencil. Its accessible name includes the current chart name, for example Rename Retail leadership; its tooltip says Rename chart.
- Enter a name and use Save chart name, or press Enter.
The name cannot be blank. Cancel rename or Escape leaves the current name in place. Renaming a local draft changes its browser-stored name; renaming a saved chart updates the chart in your account.
Use names that distinguish versions or groups, such as “Retail leadership” or “Hiring plan, Oct 2026.”
Return to a saved chart
Choose the current chart name to open Your charts. Select a chart to open it. If you have more than 5 saved charts, use Search charts to filter the list by name.
The selected chart is marked in the list. The switcher also shows the number of saved charts and your account limit. Wait for the current chart to say Saved before switching. If Studio cannot open the selection, it tells you to save your changes and try again.
On a compact screen, open Studio menu. Signed-in users see their saved chart list there and can select another chart; the menu also offers New chart, and Delete chart when the current saved chart is editable. Guests do not see the saved-chart list. Their menu offers Sign in to save & export and Reset chart instead.
The compact workspace opens in People. It edits the same document as the desktop chart.
Duplicate or delete a chart
On desktop, open Your charts, then use the actions beside a saved chart.
- Duplicate creates another saved chart from that chart. It is unavailable when the account is at its chart limit.
- Delete removes the selected saved chart after confirmation. This is different from deleting one person and different from discarding an unsaved local draft.
- New chart starts another chart. Import starts a new chart from a spreadsheet when you use it from the chart switcher.
Check the chart's name before deletion. Deleting a saved chart is account-level document removal; Undo in the chart only covers eligible changes to people and cannot restore a deleted chart.
If you need a portable copy of the people data, choose Export, then CSV spreadsheet, before deleting the chart. CSV is a data file; it does not preserve the chart's visual theme.
Guest reset versus saved-chart deletion
For a guest draft on a compact screen, open Studio menu, choose Reset chart, then read the confirmation and choose Reset. On desktop, open Your charts, choose Discard draft, then confirm Discard. Either route clears the current local work in that browser.
For a saved chart on a compact screen, open Studio menu, choose Delete chart, then read the confirmation and choose Delete. On desktop, open Your charts, use the actions beside the saved chart, choose Delete, then confirm Delete chart. The confirmation names the chart and explains that the chart and its people will be removed.
Check for the Local label before resetting a draft, and check the saved chart name before deleting it. Neither action belongs to the people-change history, so chart Undo cannot restore the draft or chart.
Find the limit that applies
Studio has separate limits for different jobs. The chart switcher shows the current account's saved-chart count and chart limit. If a chart reaches the current build ceiling, Studio reports that limit where the add, import, or save is blocked.
Export eligibility is separate. Export quotes the available formats, people limit, and pass for the scope you selected. That scope decides whether an active pass covers the current export. If you buy a pass, Studio can set the minimum size higher to cover the account's largest saved chart. A pass does not change the number of custom fields on a chart.
A chart can define up to 5 custom fields, and up to 3 custom fields can appear on a card. Those field limits are explained in choosing chart details. Current export limits and pass behavior are in watermark and export-pass help.
